Immerse yourself in a vibrant world of color and creativity during this virtual art retreat, “Ocean Whispers,” as we gather together on Zoom for three unforgettable days of creativity and connection!
Growing up on the Oregon Coast made me a seeker of wonders, and I’m thrilled to share this inspiration with you. From the old-growth woods perched above the ocean to the thundering surf pounding against the rocky shore and the fog hanging over sandy beaches, the landscape offers its treasures and dynamic inspiration to the willing soul.
Over the course of three days, I will be sharing my love for the the sea and demonstrating all of my favorite techniques, tips, and tricks creating ocean-inspired artwork. From sketching to watercolors and acrylic paint, exploring color, layers, materials, and working big and small, we will dive into all things sea-related.
Whether you are a budding artist or an intermediate creator seeking fresh inspiration, this retreat guarantees to leave you brimming with new ideas and motivation to create your own unique ocean-inspired art. Together, we will absorb the colors, materials, and treasures of the seascape and transform them into unique artwork.
In addition to the live experience, the cost of the class includes access to a private class website with lifetime access, recordings of our live sessions, three additional pre-filmed ocean-themed tutorials, inspiration downloads/printables, and a fun goodie bag sent to your home.

My Teaching Style
I've been teaching art since 2004 and while I have a formal education in Fine Art, I love to break the rules! As a teacher, it's my mission to share simple techniques that artists of any level can use to create bold and colorful art. I also like to cram as much creativity as I possibly can into my classes. My goal is to inspire my students and provide new ideas, techniques, live demonstrations, one on one support and the space to make creative discoveries.

Supplies
NOTE ABOUT SUPPLIES: I don’t typically have a required supply list for any of my classes because I always like to share a variety of different concepts that can be applied to a variety of supplies and surfaces when I teach. In this virtual retreat we will be working with watercolor paint and acrylic paint and I will be using a variety of different surfaces.
To work along with the class you will need-
- Watercolor paint- any brand will work
- Acrylic paint- any brand will work. I am going to leave the color choices up to you for that paint. I would recommend at the least 5-6 colors that you want to use for flowers AND black and white. Any brand and any quality will work. Dick Blick, Apple Barrel and Michales brand are a few of my favorites.
- Loose paper- watercolor paper or bristol paper for both watercolor paint and acrylic paint. I like the Canson XL 140lb Watercolor Pad.
- If you don’t want to work on loose paper, you can also use an art journal or mixed media mixed journal or a watercolor journal. Any type of tablet or journal made for for wet media will work.
- Paint brushes- Brand and quality do not matter but I recommend having at least one round brush (size 6-8) and one flat brush on hand but the more brush options you have the better!
- Favorite pens, markers, pencils and crayons
If you have any supply questions feel free to reach out to alisaburke@gmail.com and we will assist in any way that we can!
